The second largest country in the CIS (after Russia), Kazakhstan is also one of the wealthiest states in the former Soviet Union - with large oil, gas, coal, metal and mineral reserves. There is a substantial primary chemicals industry and both ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgical enterprises active in the country. Added to this is also a big agricultural sector.

From an Industrial Gas point of view therefore, opportunities abound. This is especially so when one considers that much of the Soviet-era gases infrastructure will require upgrading and/or replacement within the foreseeable future. The point is reinforced by the country's generally business-friendly environment and the concerted effort currently underway in Kazakhstan to diversify and develop its economic base and to expand its trade relationships.
